Memories from Home

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Sarah who’s based in our Hide All Shad Thames store, arrived in South East London this December fresh from Elizabeth, South Australia. She entertains us with stories of sunshine, barbies and Barossa wines.

Barossa Valley, one of Australia’s most famous wine-growing regions, is home to Penfolds Grange, Jacob’s Creek and Sarah’s favourite wine Klauber Shiraz made at the Kies Winery.

I’m missing most, says Sarah, my sunshine, my bbq-ed sausage-sizzles with loads of tomato sauce and my Vegemite and cheese sandwiches!

Dales on the Dunes

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

Here’s Pauline’s niece enjoying her half-term holidays riding across Saunton Sands. Gail’s riding not her pony but her neighbour’s Dale pony,  taking part in a Devon Riding Holidays day trip.

As we all settle down to long days and dark nights with Christmas looming, we very much need our daily dose of fresh air and freedom. Short in supply in retain during November and December! Thank you Gail and Devon Riding Holidays at West Steart Farm for today’s distraction.

A few of our Favourite Beaches

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

In the spirit of summer, we thought we would share our favourite beaches here at Hide All. In the hope that we would get to visit before the sun leaves.

Starting with Rachel’s favourite, Brighton beach has so much choice. With the famous pier, lanes for shopping, and pebbles, it is a classic for England.

Next we have Katy’s! Though Katy is beginning a new adventure as an Art teacher, we felt given she is such an important part of Hide All that its only right she be included! Her choice is Holkham beach in Norfolk; and being a Norfolk girl we should think this place has some great memories for her.

Our newest member of Hide All has chosen something a bit further from home. Estepona beach in Spain is where Jane likes to spend her time when possible and hopes to get there for a visit very soon!

Our last but certainly not least choice is Pauline’s very favourite and much loved Saunton Sands in Devon, where she grew up, and still visits whenever the opportunity arises. A truly beautiful place, it is apparent from this image just why this would be her favourite.

So we wish you all happy holidaying this summer!

Born in 1954, Lily van der Stokker is a Dutch artist currently based in Amsterdam and New York. Often taking the form of wall drawings, her pieces deal with ideas of beauty, love, relationships, family and the everyday. This exhibition, ‘No Big Deal Thing’, will be the largest exhibition of her work to date in the UK.

So girls, if you want some inspiration, direction and fun head down West – Sex and the City comes a very sorry second!

The Wild Wild West

Friday, May 28th, 2010

It was holiday time for Pauline and Mick last week. Relaxing is good… and in the sunshine! For all you blog readers heading down to Cornwall this summer go to the Minack Theatre because it’s just brilliant!

minack1.jpg minack14.jpg minack13.jpg

The theatre was planned, built and financed by the amazing Rowena Cade, with panoramic views overlooking the Cornish countryside and sea.

The theatre by day…

…and by night.

The first performance of ‘The Tempest’ in the summer of 1932 was lit by batteries, car headlights and the feeble power brought down from Minack House. It took Rowena and two Cornish craftsmen six months to build a simple stage and some rough seating for the performance.

Live productions are running all throughout the summer months. This week ‘A Mere Interlude’ based on the Thomas Hardy short story will be performed.

Thank you Rowena for creating such an incredible place.
