Jazz Night

As more London music venues close by the day we can thank the trusty jazz clubs and their seeming resilience to the decline in live music.

Closest to us here at Shad Thames WOULD have been the Prince of Orange in Rotherhithe, in it’s day the pub hosted acts such as Jools Holland during his rise to stardom and in turn became an iconic South East London jazz venue. Sadly The Prince of Orange closed it’s doors to jazz lovers in 2006.

Of course here at Hide All we’re avid lovers of music no matter the genre and it would seem so is our “King of Cuffs”; Simon Carter.

Consistently producing a beautiful range of semi-precious cuff-links, Simon has put his hand to a bit of brass and strings…

Move over Cliff!

Tuesday, November 27th, 2012

‘Tis the season to be jolly and what better way to signify it’s arrival than hearing the opening bar’s of your favourite Christmas tune.

Here at Hide All we’re always looking for new and interesting approaches in all aspects of the shop, this of course includes the music that keeps our lovely customers toes tapping.

Thus we have taken it upon ourselves to launch a crusade to find the ultimate alternative Christmas soundtrack for you all!

In no particular order:

CEE LO GREEN – Magic Moments:

The Hide All favourite and all round soul king has released what he describes as “Soulful takes on Christmas classics.”

LADY ANTEBELLUM – On this Christmas night:

At the other end of the spectrum and with a slight injection of cheese, this Nashville trio opt for the country slant of festive proceedings.

SUFJAN STEVENS – Silver and Gold/Songs for Christmas:

The genius that is Sufjan Stevens has treated us all to another delicate and certainly alternative Christmas cracker. We dare you to not like it!

EMMY THE GREAT AND TIM WHEELER – This is Christmas:

The alt songstress teams up with former Ash frontman and boyfriend Tim Wheeler to produce an album jam packed full of Christmas bells and crystal clear strings. Christmas bells and holly a plenty with a small dash of satire and comedy.

If none of these tickle your fancy, (which they should!) don’t fear, Rod Stewart, Luther Vandross and Buble himself all have their 2012 offerings that’ll be sure to convert even the most stubborn scrooge amongst you!

If music be the food of retail…

Monday, September 19th, 2011

Here at Hide All we’re all a bit in love with our music. Listening to music 8 hours a day when we are working here, it’s hard not to be! Thankfully we’ve all got our own tastes so the music is nothing but eclectic and certainly never dull. I thought we’d give  a short run down  of the current bands that we’re enjoying in the shops, and hopefully introduce you to some new music that you haven’t heard before.

Greenwich Summer Sessions

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Greenwich is currently alive to the sound of music all thanks to the Summer Sessions running throughout the week! From Tuesday to Sunday there’s a concert everyday featuring the proverbial who’s who of music. There’s something for everyone with some of our favourite new acts as well as some great golden oldies!

Pauline and Mick are both big fans of the local band Squeeze, we are expecting another fine rendition of Cool for Cats this Friday.

Whereas I would highly recommend Shlomo and the Vocal Orchestra playing on Sunday, having seen him live at Glastonbury I can safely say its quite a show and well worth a look if you free on Sunday night (especially as its 2-4-1 on all standing and seating tickets on that night!). Above is their take on Massive Attack’s ‘Teardrop’

Jack & Norah

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

We have new music this week and its good. Rome, the Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi’s tribute to spaghetti westerns music just captures our love of the 70′s.  Featuring vocals by Jack White and Norah Jones this retro album has been over 4 years in the making. Thanks guys(and Norah) we are loving it.

Elbow at Hide All and The O2

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

build-a-rocket-boys.jpg

We’ve been playing the new album in  both stores and loving it. Only a live rendition of the bands soaring melodies would top the enjoyment.

That’s exactly where Hide All Head Pauline is going tonight, at Greenwich’s The O2, and somebody’s a tad excited. It could be the rave reviews the performances have been gathering in recent weeks. But we suspect it’s every girls dream to be sung to sweetly by world weathered northerners.

The Most Incredible Thing

Singing in the Shop

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

…one day, we hope! Hide All Shad Thames is where our singers work – we have Louise, well known to all you Hide All customers. Not only is she a criminal justice graduate and a volunteer police officer, but she’s a singer too. From school choirs to public performances, she is now toning up her skills on contemporary rock and musical theatre thanks to her new teacher Matt Heanes. And how did she hear about Matt Heanes? From colleague Andrew, singer in the Ideals.

Celebrating All Things 21

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Here on the Hide All blog we are celebrating all things 21…

We are currently playing Adele‘s ’21′ in our stores – how much do we love this album? Fantastic performance at the Brit Awards too.

Vintage Books celebrates 21 years of publishing this month. Riverside Books at London Bridge has a great window display at the moment which includes Pauline’s current read ‘The Hare with Amber Eyes‘ by Edmund de Waal.

It’s World Poetry Day on 21st March. We will be celebrating by re-reading some of our favourites; Pauline loves ‘The Birthday Letters’ by Ted Hughes, Louise likes the war poetry of Siegfried Sassoon and Thomas Hardy and Rachel enjoys the work of Carol Ann Duffy.
