If music be the food of retail…

Monday, September 19th, 2011

Here at Hide All we’re all a bit in love with our music. Listening to music 8 hours a day when we are working here, it’s hard not to be! Thankfully we’ve all got our own tastes so the music is nothing but eclectic and certainly never dull. I thought we’d give  a short run down  of the current bands that we’re enjoying in the shops, and hopefully introduce you to some new music that you haven’t heard before.

Greenwich Summer Sessions

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Greenwich is currently alive to the sound of music all thanks to the Summer Sessions running throughout the week! From Tuesday to Sunday there’s a concert everyday featuring the proverbial who’s who of music. There’s something for everyone with some of our favourite new acts as well as some great golden oldies!

Pauline and Mick are both big fans of the local band Squeeze, we are expecting another fine rendition of Cool for Cats this Friday.

Whereas I would highly recommend Shlomo and the Vocal Orchestra playing on Sunday, having seen him live at Glastonbury I can safely say its quite a show and well worth a look if you free on Sunday night (especially as its 2-4-1 on all standing and seating tickets on that night!). Above is their take on Massive Attack’s ‘Teardrop’

Jack & Norah

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

We have new music this week and its good. Rome, the Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi’s tribute to spaghetti westerns music just captures our love of the 70’s.  Featuring vocals by Jack White and Norah Jones this retro album has been over 4 years in the making. Thanks guys(and Norah) we are loving it.

Elbow at Hide All and The O2

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

build-a-rocket-boys.jpg

We’ve been playing the new album in  both stores and loving it. Only a live rendition of the bands soaring melodies would top the enjoyment.

That’s exactly where Hide All Head Pauline is going tonight, at Greenwich’s The O2, and somebody’s a tad excited. It could be the rave reviews the performances have been gathering in recent weeks. But we suspect it’s every girls dream to be sung to sweetly by world weathered northerners.

Singing in the Shop

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

…one day, we hope! Hide All Shad Thames is where our singers work - we have Louise, well known to all you Hide All customers. Not only is she a criminal justice graduate and a volunteer police officer, but she’s a singer too. From school choirs to public performances, she is now toning up her skills on contemporary rock and musical theatre thanks to her new teacher Matt Heanes. And how did she hear about Matt Heanes? From colleague Andrew, singer in the Ideals.

Celebrating All Things 21

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Here on the Hide All blog we are celebrating all things 21…

We are currently playing Adele’s ‘21′ in our stores - how much do we love this album? Fantastic performance at the Brit Awards too.

Vintage Books celebrates 21 years of publishing this month. Riverside Books at London Bridge has a great window display at the moment which includes Pauline’s current read ‘The Hare with Amber Eyes‘ by Edmund de Waal.

It’s World Poetry Day on 21st March. We will be celebrating by re-reading some of our favourites; Pauline loves ‘The Birthday Letters’ by Ted Hughes, Louise likes the war poetry of Siegfried Sassoon and Thomas Hardy and Rachel enjoys the work of Carol Ann Duffy.

Belated Happy New Year…

Wednesday, January 12th, 2011

…to all our customers, colleagues, friends and associates. We don’t do resolutions here at Hide All! So instead we have for you ‘Reasons to be Cheerful’  week one 2011!

1. The Ashes - Whilst us girls have had a week of catching up, the boys have been burning the midnight oil and just loved all the action down under. Well done Capt’n Strauss and all those lovely bowlers, with fantastic support from the Barmy Army as always!

2. Stargazing Live - We seem to be turning scientific this year - aren’t Brian Cox and Dara O’Briain just the best? Never thought we’d be hooked, but the starry nights are just beautiful.

 3. Sale Shoes from Bullfrogs - Pauline loves her Camper ankle boots - our friends, collegaues and fellow Charlton supporters at Bullfrogs always manage to hit the footwear spot! Who remembers when Dave Berry worked in Bullfrogs Greenwich? A SE London boy who’s done oh so well.

 4. Andrew’s New Single - Our weekender and Greenwich University student, Andrew, has released a new single ‘Significant Other’ with his band Ideals. We’re very proud of our colleague’s musical achievement and success. He’s now on tour as well as going to uni and working at Hide All! A little rock and roll on a dreary January day - there’s nothing better.

 5. Late Nights at Tower Bridge - We were open late on the 5th January and will be open every Wednesday until 7.30pm. Thanks to all of you who popped in last week - it’s proving to be a great idea!

Winter Nights Out

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

The Union Chapel to see The Unthanks is Pauline’s choice - what a perfect venue!

Along with the Barclays ATP World Tour Tennis Finals at the O2 arena.

Rachel has been to see Complicite’s ‘Shun-kin’ at the Barbican Theatre, and is looking forward to the Christmas Cabaret at the Greenwich Dance Academy, featuring Hoop La La.

Mick’s about to buy tickets for Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘Patience‘ at Greenwich Theatre with  a 14-piece orchestra - expecting another good night of entertainment in SE10.
