Climate Change Camp in Blackheath
It was such exciting news when Blackheath was announced as the secret location for Climate Change Camp. So today, Hide All went down to the peaceful protest to have a look.
Although the camp was still being set up, you can see what a worthwhile event this will be. Already the camp had a great atmosphere. There will be excellent workshops, talks and music that will all centre on climate issues and the financial crisis. It really is an important event, so everyone should try and show their support in some way.
Blackheath is symbolic to the camp organisers. Being the historic location of the Peasant’s revolt in 1381, it is the ideal location for a new social struggle. With Canary Wharf in full view of the camp, the ultimate capitalist symbol is a main target for the protesters, as are the oil companies and government departments that will all be in the spotlight.
Let’s hope the camp stays peaceful and the demonstrations raise awareness, reminding people that we should speak out and get involved.
